Men’s basketball hosts media day at Breslin Center
East Lansing, Michigan – The Michigan State Men’s Basketball team met with the media for their annual campus media day ahead of the 2021-22 season Wednesday at the Breslin Center.
The Spartans play their first exhibition game on Wednesday, October 27, hosting Ferris State (BTN +, 7 p.m.).
The Head Coach Tom izzo spoke to the media and answered questions for an hour in the Breslin Center press room to start the day.
“We’ve had a good few weeks of training,” said Izzo. “We had a bad practice last Friday we let the folks at Izzone Campout in and I don’t think we handled that very well. Other than that I think we were at a very, very high level.”
Izzo also spoke about his team captains, senior striker Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Michigan / Belleville) and junior striker Malik room (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]).
“Our captains are two different guys,” said Izzo. “In Malik you have the Silent Assassin who is a very smart kid who kind of helps me with the kids on and off the pitch. And you have Gabe, who is my Energizer Bunny, I kind of have him. So wound up and tell him to go and he brings a lot of excitement. So I have a combination of the two. Neither has big egos. One of the things I love about this team, is that she is egoless. “
After Izzo’s press conference, Michigan State players were available to the media for an hour before practice.
MSU will play a pair of exhibition games at the Breslin Center, against Ferris State (October 27) and Grand Valley State (November 4).
The Spartans open the 2021-22 regular season on Tuesday, November 9, with Kansas in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The Big Ten Conference game kicks off Wednesday, Dec. 8 in Minnesota, with the conference home opener on Saturday, Dec. 11 against Penn State.
