Michigan City Area Schools to Host “Super Saturday” for School Immunizations, Physical Exams and Family Fun

Schools in the Michigan City area will host a “Super Saturday” vaccine catch-up event on Saturday, September 17 to help ensure all 5,000 students are up to date on required vaccinations. The free event will take place at Barker Middle School, 319 E. Barker Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Super Saturday is open to all K-12 students and their families. It will be hosted by MCAS, in partnership with HealthLinc and the Indiana Immunization Coalition. All school vaccinations required by the State of Indiana will be offered, as well as COVID-19 vaccinations for all ages and sports and physical healthy children.

“Indiana requires all students to be up to date on vaccinations in order to attend school,” says Brandi Morlan, MCAS director of nursing. “At schools in the Michigan City area, we are giving families a grace period to be cared for. But by October 3, all of our students must have the required vaccinations or they will be expelled from school. To help our families ensure they are in compliance, we are offering this free opportunity to catch up.

“Super Saturday” will also feature entertainment for the whole family. Free Kona Ice will be available from 10 a.m. to noon, the Michigan City Police Department will host a K9 demonstration at 10 a.m., and the Michigan City Fire Department Fire Pup will be present from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Indiana Department of Transportation will distribute free bicycle helmets to children in kindergarten through 2nd grade, and HealthLinc will provide information on health insurance as well as information on sports and the child’s physical condition. .
