Just hours after the Michigan Senate released its report on the 2020 election, county clerks from across the state were in County Antrim, showing their support for County Clerk Sheryl Guy.
Guy and his office have become a frequent target of those who doubt the outcome of the elections.
County Antrim’s results initially showed President Biden winning the traditionally Republican county.
It was the result of human error and the results were corrected in favor of former President Trump.
But that didn’t stop the scathing attacks on the guy and his staff.
Midland, Muskegon and Genesee County Clerks stood alongside County Antrim Clerk Sheryl Guy on Wednesday morning in County Antrim.
“We have to move on. First of all, our community, our county and our country should come before partisan nonsense. I’m here because I’m trying to unite people and show that we stand behind Sheryl Guy across the state, ”said John J. Gleason, Genesee County Clerk and Deeds Registry.
Despite a manual recount and the dismissal of a lawsuit, the County Antrim clerk’s office remains at the center of unproven fraud allegations.
“I think the message is that we want the state to come back, we want the nation to come together and understand that there was no fraud. Yes, there were some mistakes, but at the end of the day the votes that were counted were the votes that residents of the state of Michigan and across the country cast on election day, ” Midland County Clerk Ann Manary said.
And clerks say they’re worried about what the continued spread of election misinformation could have on future elections.
“We have laws in place to make sure all of those checks and balances are being followed and Sheryl did exactly what she needed to do. People have to understand the process, ”Manary said.
Guy couldn’t say much because of the ongoing legal proceedings. But said she was incredibly grateful for the show of support.
