Michigan State Police and Kroger team up to feed 200 families

The Michigan State Police (MSP) and Kroger have partnered to provide Thanksgiving dinners for 200 families in central and southeast Michigan. Starting today, meals provided by Kroger will be distributed to families identified by MSP Community Services soldiers through collaboration with local schools and organizations.

“MSP is one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the nation and its commitment to going above and beyond the expectations of the communities it serves is commendable,” Governor Gretchen Whitmer said. “This year they are coming together to provide Thanksgiving dinners for 200 families in central and southeast Michigan, and I am proud of them for continuing their mission of public service. I will continue to work with everyone to ensure MSP has the resources it needs to effectively protect and serve our communities.

“We are especially grateful to Kroger for providing Thanksgiving meals to hundreds of Michigan families in need,” said MSP Director Col. Joe Gasper. “Community service is an important part of our mission, and our soldiers look forward to delivering these meals safely every year.”

Each meal donation will feed a family of 4-6 and includes a turkey and traditional sides.

“At Kroger, we are committed to ending hunger in the communities in which we live and serve. Our goal to donate three billion meals by 2025 with our Zero Hunger | The Zero Waste Social Impact Plan requires partnerships across the state to achieve this. Over the past five years, we have been able to provide more than 900 Thanksgiving dinners to families in need through our collaboration with the Michigan State Police. We are grateful to our partners at MSP for helping us identify families in need during the Thanksgiving season, and we look forward to another year of helping bring hope during the holiday season. Like MSP, we are committed to serving our neighbors and building strong community ties,” said Rachel Hurst, Midwest Region Corporate Affairs Manager for The Kroger Co.

Participating MSP stations include Lansing, Jackson, Monroe, Brighton, Metro North, Metro South, Flint, Lapeer and Tri-City.
