Ford Mustang Mach-E Police Pilot Test Vehicle is officially the first all-electric vehicle to pass rigorous testing by Michigan State Police; authority over valuation of vehicles for service. The vehicle was tested on September 18 and 20. MSP will publish the test results on its website later this fall.

The main benchmarks covered by the MSP during testing include acceleration, top speed, braking and high-speed chasing. Some of the tests performed as part of precision driving training include serpentine (slalom), avoidance maneuvers and skid control.

“The fact that the Mustang Mach-E has successfully withstood the grueling evaluation of the Michigan State Police demonstrates that Ford can build electric vehicles capable, rugged and reliable enough for the toughest jobs,” said said Ted Cannis, CEO of Ford Pro. . “We understand the needs of our business customers and are committed to opening up new electrification opportunities for them. “

Given that Ford is already building both an F-150 and an Explorer suitable for police duties, we believe the Mustang Mach-E could play a more specialized role for ridings looking to add zero-emission vehicles to their fleet. Ann Arbor, Michigan, is an example of a city that has done this before.

Ford Mustang Mach-E: the first electric vehicle tested by the police

The Mustang Mach-E isn’t the first fully electric police vehicle to hit the streets. Fremont, Calif., Has been driving the Tesla Model S P85 since 2019. Fremont is also where Tesla builds the Model S. But it has never been tested by Michigan State Police.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT has an advertised range of 270 miles and has an estimated 0-60 second time of 3.8 seconds and boasts 480 top horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Get the Mach-E GT Performance Edition, and that torque specification climbs to 634 lb-ft, with 0-60 dropping to 3.5 seconds, as the tires go from Continental All-Seasons to Pirelli Summer Rubber.

When all the test data is released, it is highly likely that the Mustang Mach-E will be the fastest vehicle the MSP has ever evaluated for police use. Next to none other than the Ford F-150.
