Spartan Gymnastics announces its 2022 program
EAST LANSING, Michigan – Michigan State Women’s Gymnastics Head Coach Mike Rowe announced the Spartans’ 2022 schedule on Monday afternoon.
“We are delighted with the upcoming 2022 women’s gymnastics season as it is a new start for our program,” said the head coach. Mike Rowe commented. “We are stronger and better than ever and the parity between the Big Ten as a conference is also becoming more competitive than ever.”
“We’re on track to meet our milestones and event benchmarks, even maybe a little ahead of previous years, which shows us that this year’s team is hungry to do big things. “
This year’s program includes five home meets at Jenison Field House. Michigan State will host Big Ten opponents of Iowa, Maryland and Illinois for meetings in East Lansing.
The Spartans will also be competing in the B1G Five Meet on February 19 as part of the annual Elevate the Stage event in Toledo, Ohio.
The Spartans again welcome 12 gymnasts, including five seniors to the 2021-22 squad, and bring in six newcomers in the form of five freshmen and a transfer.
Meet the Spartans will take place on November 20 at 1:00 p.m. to celebrate the start of the season. Fans are invited to meet this year’s squad and get a taste of the routines to come. The Spartans will also bring back their annual Green & White meetup, details to be announced later.
MSU opens its road season with UC Davis on Jan.9, followed by a meeting with Bowling Green and Illinois State at home on Jan.15. They close out January with a host from Iowa on January 22 and a trip to Michigan on January 30.
“We can’t wait to be in front of our fans again, open at home against Bowling Green and Illinois State, and then entertain last year’s regular season champions Iowa on the weekend. next, ”Rowe said.
February opens with two home events for the Spartans as they host Maryland on February 5 and Illinois on February 13. After the B1G Five Meet, they’re on the road again, this time against Ohio State, to end the month.
The team concludes things with two final regular season events in March. The two are not conference meetings, with the host of West Michigan taking place on March 5 before the Spartans hit the road to face Kentucky on March 11.
The 2022 Big Ten Championships are scheduled for March 18-20 in Iowa City and will be hosted by Iowa.
