Spartans opening season closing tournament – Michigan State University Athletics



HANAHAN, South Carolina – The Michigan State Women’s Golf Team concluded its season opener, the Cougar Classic, on Tuesday at the Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, South Carolina. The Spartans shot a 12 on par 300 in Tuesday’s final round and finished the tournament 14 on par 878 (291-287-300) and in 12e place.


The 17-team field included 11 teams from last season’s NCAA Regional Championships, including Arkansas, who won the Cougar Classic at 23 under 841. Brooke Matthews of Arkansas led the field at the Cougar Classic. with an NCAA record of 25 under par by 191.

Valentina rossi led all Spartans to 1 over par 217 (72-69-76) and finished in 29e place.

Valery Plata had the Spartans’ lowest lap of the day on Tuesday with a 74 of 2 over par. She finished tied for 36e up to 3 on par 219 (74-71-74).

Haylin harris was 6 over par 222 (74-73-75) and tied for 57e place, while a freshman Brooke Biermann was a shot behind at 7 over par 223 (74-74-75) in what was his first college tournament.

Leila Raines was 12 over par 228 (71-77-80).

Michigan State is back in action October 4-5 with the Windy City Classic in Wilmette, Illinois.
