TUESDAY MATCH:Michigan State confounds after lackluster loss to Michigan; “I just need them to play harder”

Game Notes: With 10 games remaining on the Big Ten schedule for Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, it’s probably a bit too early to count on Big Ten tournament seeding scenarios, but… if the Spartans can get a little help from Michigan ( by beating Iowa on Thursday), Illinois (by beating Iowa on Sunday) and, uh, Penn State (by beating Rutgers on Sunday), there’s a path to a double bye for the Spartans in Indianapolis next week. (OK, not exactly a bet we’d want to put money on, but still….)

Of course, it all depends on whether MSU takes care of OSU on Thursday night. Whatever high the Spartans reached after knocking out Purdue on Saturday, it was blown away by Tuesday night’s terrible performance against Michigan in Ann Arbor. And it starts with better performances from point guards AJ Hoggard and Tyson Walker. The duo combined for 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting with four assists against the Wolverines, having had 19 points and 10 assists (on 8-for-21 shooting, including Walker’s 3-point shot winner) against the Boilermakers.
