William Winfield obituary (1939 – 2021) – Michigan City, IN


William Nelson Winfield, 82, of Michigan City, Indiana, died on Monday, October 18, 2021 from prolonged complications from lung cancer.

William was born on June 7, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, to Frederick Scott and Esther Mae (Peterson) Winfield, who predeceased him in death.

William married the love of his life, Margaret (MacNeal) Winfield on December 29, 1962 in Hillsdale, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Marge; children, Michelle (Robert) McGuire, F. Scott Winfield and Carole (Mark) Streicher; grandchildren, Erin McGuire, and Katelyn and Zoe Streicher; and her sisters, Claire Marie Peek and Janet Carol (Gary) Root.

William was an Eagle Scout at the age of 12. He graduated from Albion College in 1961 with a BA in Economics. He attended Michigan State University’s master’s program at a later date.

William proudly served as an officer in the US Navy from 1961 to 1965. William began his career in finance and economics and later became a self-employed business owner, certified financial planner, and estate planner.

He was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church and a Boy Scout leader in Chicago and Michigan City. His amazing wit and loving nature was evident in everything he did. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him, but his memories will live on.
